Douglas Bedgood holds the first testing instrument for Keys Hydro Power that arrived from the UK today. It is a highly sophisticated current meter made of titanium that records water velocity and direction every second over many tidal cycles. The data will be downloaded to a computer for measuring the potentials for tidal turbine farms in local channels that run between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. This is the first step in preparation for the upcoming turbine experiment at Bahia Honda Channel. The proposed turbine farm is planned to generate electricity for the Florida Keys.

On October 6, 2007, the former Governor of Florida officially joined the Keys Hydro Power team to bring renewable, emission-free electric power to the Florida Keys. In a meeting at the

West Palm Beach Hilton, all aspects of the clean, underwater proposed power plant were analyzed. Governor Kirk is a sincere advocate of technologies that will control global warming from human causes such as fossil fuel combustion. During Governor Kirk’s administration he founded the Department of Environmental Protection which influenced the Federal Government to establish the Environmental Protection Agency.

Engineering update from Douglas Bedgood

Tomorrow, October 10th, I will be in Stuart, Florida with Don Kincaid to view progress on the new 100kw test tidal turbine in the manufacturing facility at Applied Concepts Unleashed with their design engineers. If I get some good photos they will be posted here.

Today, Professor Alexandra Techet at M.I.T., a leader in hydrodynamic engineering, offered to be involved in the tidal turbine testing and research we will be performing at Bahia Honda Channel, according to Kinetic Energy Systems President, Darwin Salls.
